Hopefully none of you noticed

I’ve had to move the site this weekend, my host Elixant is sadly going out of business so I’ve set up shop with a new host. They very kindly moved my site and databases over, but unfortunately I didn’t discover until after the domain was pointing to the new nameservers that they’d somehow moved an old archive from October instead of making an actual recent backup, resulting in what looked like the complete erasure of the forums and galleries. I have no idea how that happened, I was able to create a backup that contained all the recent files and changes in it, so I can’t imagine how they ended up with something older.

I decided to fix it all manually, since I’d already closed the support ticket and didn’t feel like opening a new one just to tranfer a few files. It took a lot longer than I expected, my ftp client dropped a few files here and there so I had to do a few directories one at a time. There were some permissions hiccups but I think I got everything working again. The galleries were a bit of a problem because that plugin is especially twitchy, (again, it came down to a simple permissions dealie) but in the end I didn’t have to re-upload everything. I did loose my captions and titles though, so I’ll have to go through and add some again.

If you happen to click on something that leads nowhere or find any images broken, I’d really appreciate it and love you forever if you tell me about it so I can fix it.

Other than that, I’m just waiting for my domain to finish the transfer to a new registrar and some other bugs to get worked out, then the move will be complete. Once that’s all done I can get started on a few more changes.

Ebay raising their fees yet again has prompted me to search for greener pastures, and I’ve found them at Etsy.com. It’s a selling venue for hand-crafted items, not for clearing out your garage or hawking PS3’s, just handmade goods. It was recommended to me by a commenter on this eBay blog post I wrote a little while ago. I don’t have my inventory moved over yet but I’ve placed links here on the site in preparation. I recommend looking around at the other sellers there, some really nifty stuff!

I’m pretty excited about it. It seems like the kind of place where people go to buy the sorts of things I sell and want to sell, rather than a catchall for everything and the kitchen sink. The community seems pretty good too, I didn’t notice any drama on the forums yet. I can list for months at a time so I’ll be able to list individual items on the Shop page and not have to change it every week. ^_^

I don’t know how fast I’ll get it all done, I’ve come down with a strange fever-inducing illness the last couple days and need to sleep a lot. Hopefully that clears up soon. Cheers!
