Hurrah for Etsy mini!

I’ve been going nuts trying to find a way to make my Etsy items appear on a page in the site using plugins and rss, but now I don’t have to! Etsy has this new “Etsy mini” feature that generates code that you can put into your site. First I tried entering the javascript version in the code input view but that didn’t work. Thankfully the flash version did! With that hurdle out of the way I figured it was a pretty good time to finally put up a bunch of pieces for sale.

I love it when technology actually makes your job fun. Listing on Etsy is a sheer joy compared to eBay. This could be the motivation I need to craft a little more often, and in a few more mediums. I find if I restrict myself to just one medium I eventually loose interest in pursuing it seriously. If I change it up a bit and have my hand in several projects I find I actually get a few more things finished. As long as I concentrate on one thing at a time of course. ;)

  1. Hey Jenny,
I just thought i say hello. I found your blog yesterday googeling around because i had a problem with my mini etsy. And i just couldn`t believe it. You are doing the same stuff at the almost the same time using the same technics. And today i came back to have another look and i got this nice php-error because you are there sitting in vancouver working on your wordpress blog while i sit here in Wellington, NZ doing just the same. So hello to you (^-^)…

  2. Hello to you too! That is indeed uncanny. ^_^ Sorry about the php errors, I hope they’re all gone now.

I looove your site! You’re much more talented than I am. I used a couple of pre-existing templates and have been working backwards to turn it all into something like what I had in my head, learning the techniques as I go. I don’t think I could do it from scratch and have it turn out all pretty like yours. :3

Mind if I add you to my blogroll? I’d like to promote your theme when you’re ready to release it. Cheers!

  3. Thank you! you should have seen my site yesterday you would change your opinion :-)…
I was working with the K2 Template but my stuff just didn`t fit in. I learned a lot working with all kind of templates and i just thought: “I can do this” but i can`t write php-code, i can understand it though and i had a lot of help from The Viech (geeky boyfriend). You are welcome to add me to your blogroll. I did already subscribe to your feed, so I know what you are doing …

This really is uncanny! I could have written that!

  4. Too neat! ^_^ I can’t write php code either, though I’m learning to edit it a little as I go. I couldn’t get K2 to bend to my will either, and I was thrown off by the fact that it had it’s own “module” system rather than supporting widgets. I know the modules are supposed to be all versatile and stuff but I could never get them to work. :P In the end I started with Mistylook and added bits from the plain wordpress default Kubrick, then did the styling. Mistylook had a lot of the php functions I wanted already so I didn’t have to change that much. When I tried to add things to Kubrick I just borked it. :P
Unfortunately this means I’ll have to be super careful and conscientious about getting permissions if I ever want to release the finished theme. I’m considering adding a bit of support for a few addons and then making it a sort of artists website “package” that could be easily adjusted for portfolio sites and the like. I know a fella who’s writing wordpress plugins for such purposes and I thought it might be neat if they had a theme to offer that supported them natively.

Sorry, went off on a tangent there. I shouldn’t have energy drinks for breakfast. XD

  5. That is exactly what i would like to do! I just try to figure out what artist and designer would really like to have on their website or Blog. I like to keep things simple and i am a big Fan of interaction between Platforms. Like:
Sell @ Etsy. Showcasing @ Flickr. Then bring all things together on you Portfolio-Webpage and add a Blogg. Tada!
At the moment i think one should distinguish between the blog and the Portfolio. Like on the one side you have a face to the customer and then people can find out more about you (if they like) on your Blog.
I don`t know maybe that sounds crazy but maybe we could do some things together like a survey in Group-Discussions or Forums in Flickr and Etsy. Asking the artist what say would like to have… And then working on tow themes same same but different :-).

  6. That sounds like a great idea! I almost did mine that way but then I found that I tend blog with a bit more frequency than the rate at which I make new arts stuffs. Those take a little longer because I’m pickier about them. ;)
