SEO and you! Also, something “Awsom”

Forum poster Rich has written a handy little primer on SEO (search engine optimization) in the tech tutorials section of the Forum. Very good guidelines that I probably don’t follow as often as I should. Certainly worth a read, and much shorter and more succinct than many that I’ve read elsewhere.

You may have noticed the new announcement box at the top of the front page (update: box no longer there because I no longer use the plugin). That’s a plugin written by the lovely and talented Harknell of Onezumi.com. He’s just launched Awsome.org, a site designed with the specific purpose of helping artists get a website up and running quickly using Wordpress. There’s two plugins available now with more in the works, and some valuable links to tools created by others as well.

Unfortunately, I was too impatient to wait for him to finish the Awsom PixGallery Plugin and ended up installing zenphoto on my site to handle my galleries a couple months ago, so I won’t be using that one just yet, but you can see it in action at Onizumiverse. The only thing keeping me from switching is that I’d have to manually rename and re-sort all my images and move them and so forth (which is a pain :P ). It’s much easier to install than a separate gallery software, so if you’re just now looking to add some simple gallery functionality to your wordpress this is a very nice one to go with. It looks like they’ll be updated fairly regularly too, version 4.4.0 is already in development and 4.3.4 came out just the other day. :)

Be sure to check out their tutorials too. Some good stuff happening there. ^_^
