It’s like I’m some kind of machine

Once again, apologies for the lack of updates, I’m a bit of a busy bee at the moment. I’m not just doing continual work on my own site (new skin AGAIN and a possible move of all users to a new forum software, which I can’t really talk about that yet since no final decision has bee made), but I’m also building two more projects simultaneously. Fortunately only one of them has to be done a little on the soon side, or else my head would aspload.

The reason I bring it up is that for one of them I get to use Comicpress, and that’s got me totally geeked, so I feel compelled to post a little something about it. I’ve wanted to try to build a webcomic site for ages, and I’ve been intrigued by Comicpress ever since Harknell blogged about it on Awsom.org. Basically, it’s a specialized theme for Wordpress that turns your Wordpress install into a webcomic site. Sounds simple, but it’s actually quite powerful once you start messing with it. The base design (I’m using the blogger edition, which looks a little bit different than the classic edition, ) looks sharp without any changes and if I had been doing this just for me I might have only changed the link colours and width and left it at that.

It makes very clever use of the Wordpress categories and such, and already I’m thinking of all sorts of neat things that can be done with it. The plan so far is that there will be comic-ing and podcasting, perhaps in both the video and audio spectrums, and maybe even shwag if we can think of anything nice to put on coffee mugs and the like. If we get a printer that does a good job of it I’d love to sell a few prints of the artwork too if there ends up being interest in such.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this one’s not for a client, this one is a project co-authored by me and my other half, the sexy Murse, therefore it will be awesome. *glee!*

We’ve come up with a few comic ideas over the years but they were mostly pretty random. We could never have started a pure comic series just with the kind of stuff we were thinking up in the beginning. It was more like a series of one shots, a few of which could be expanded into something episodic, but even those didn’t seem to lend themselves to a sense of continuity, so we really weren’t sure what to do with any of them. Finally, a couple of weeks ago Jamie came up with a great domain name, and it was available, and it gave us ideas, and got us excited, so we decided it was finally time to do something with all this wacky stuff that’s been coming out of *The Big Brain for the last ten years only to sit on the “stuff we’ll do one day” shelf.

That’s all I can say for now, I’m not exactly sworn to secrecy or anything but it’s more fun to save the rest for a surprise when it launches.  ;)

* “The Big Brain” is our nickname for the mind-meld type thinking that tends to happen when we’re together and both focused on something.
