A quick word about signing up for the bb

Edited Dec 11, 2007: I’m closing commenting on this post because all the spam comments that slip past akismet are responses to this particular entry. Sorry for any inconvenience.

For some reason the forum wasn’t sending activation emails to new signups. The ones I created myself worked fine but I tested the basic user registration and found that no activation email was sent. My first solution was change the setting so that I would have to manually activate new signups, but that’s annoying for the person registering if they happen to sign up when I’m sleeping or otherwise away from the computer for a few hours. As of now, there is no extra activation step. As soon as you fill everything out and pass the captcha you can log in and start posting. I don’t think there’ll be much trouble with spam accounts for a little while, they aren’t really hitting phpbb3 forums with the account creation bots just yet. Hopefully the email thing will be resolved before that becomes a problem. If you happen to see some spam you can help by reporting it, or getting in touch with me either through the board or through any of the contact options here on the main site (email & commenting).I’m surprised this is the only glitch I’ve found so far, and it might not even be due to the forum code itself (some other forums that have had this problem had troubles with server settings etc). I’ve tested other RC1 versions of forum softwares over the years and this is by far the most stable I’ve tried. :)
