Wedding hair jewels, they were harder to make than anticipated

I was asked to do some sparklies for my sis and her bridesmaids for her wedding. At a sort of last-minute-ish time she informed me that they had to move the wedding up by two weeks, and that she’d like some hair things instead of necklaces and earrings (the stuff I usually make).

This was a bit of a pickle, as I really haven’t done this sort of thing before, and wasn’t sure I could get them to come out nice at all. I’m still not sure, but I’m hoping it’ll do. I’m also hoping that they actually make it in time, since I only just finished them this afternoon. It took me a lot of tries before I came up with something that I half liked.

I wanted to do something bigger and more ornate, but this ended up being all I could manage with my materials, since I sort of screwed up the supply order (that I placed in such a hurry that day that I ordered the wrong number of beads, the wrong size combs, and entered the wrong credit card number, doh!)

I was pretty nervous about this project. My sis can be pretty perfectionist, and has been a bit less than tolerant of my failing to live up to stuff before. I think it’ll be alright, she’s been way more relaxed about the whole thing than I would’ve expected a couple years ago. When I had to tell her we wouldn’t be able to afford the journey home for the wedding, she just said “That’s okay, you’ll make the next one. HAHA!”

Methinks the hubby to be must be a good’un, I’ve never seen her this relaxed about anything that was ostensibly a “big deal” ever. I’m happy for her. ^_^

  1. These came out very nicely. Great work.

  2. These came out really nicely for a first try. I doubt mine will be as nice, but actually, one of my next “things to try” is going to be hair ornaments for bridal parties.
I’ll let you know how mine turn out… and I’ll even be honest and post pics of the first 10 attempts, instead of pretending they never happened.

  3. @Tony: Thanks!

@erin: That would be great! I just want to suggest though that you don’t put so many links in your comments in future. Akismet flagged it as spam, and if I hadn’t taken the time to look at all the spam before deleting it I would’ve missed your comment entirely. Just the one link in the url field is sufficient. ^_^

  4. Those are beautiful!!! Vair, vair lovely, your sis will love em. :)

  5. Breeeeeeee! *pounce* Thankee thankee. ^_^ I just finished talking to my Mom and she said Jess loved them, they even got there in time for her to wear them. :D

  6. Great work!!! I am surprised they were harder then they look. I guess that is the case for most things ;)

  7. @Lisa: Thanks! I think the thing that made it difficult was the pressure more than anything. I came up with a few that were probably fine but since it was for my only sister’s wedding I wanted them to be “awesome”, and kept starting over. :p
