My first crack at an ipod cozy

I was recently blessed with an ipod nano (3rd generation, 4gig) and I don’t know if it was because it was refurbished or what but it didn’t come with a protective slip cover like my husbands 2nd gen nano did a few years ago. I figured there was nothing for it but to make one myself.

I based it loosley on this pattern, using this glossary to try to understand the abbreviations and googled the stitches I didn’t know how to do. I kinda screwed up at one point in the middle and made one row one stick smaller than all the others, so it’s a bit of an hourglass shape, but the ipod and headphones fit okay so it’ll do.

Another thing I flubbed is that the pattern called for a half double crochet in each stitch on the initial chain, and I did it on every second like the lady in the hdc tutorial I found on YouTube did. All that means is it has a more open lace-like look than the pattern I was trying to follow. Again, not really a biggie.

I know it’s not much and the little handle I left on it is kinda messy (it was a bit of an afterthought as I was tying the ends up) bit I’ve never been able to crochet anything but squares and rectangles, so this feels like a bit of an achievment. :-)

It was also really fun to do. It took up barely any of the little ball of yarn I bought at the dollar store so I think I’m going to try to do a few more. If they turn out nice enough I might put them up for sale on Etsy or something. Would anybody like to call dibs on one?

  1. They normally don’t come with a cover. I’ve had 2 iPod Nano 2nd Gens and both brand new and no cover for them. I bought silicon skins for them (now both gone :-( )

Pretty nice achievement for not being able crochet though.

  2. Wow, really? Maybe James’s came with a little slip cover because it was a free gift with the purchase of a three year Telus contract. :-P

I can crochet really, just usually I can only manage to do one kind of stitch and only in square and rectangular shapes, mostly because it’s been almost 20 years since my mom tried to teach me any new stitches. I made a lot of loooong skinny scarves for a while. *lol*
